The 2026 Black History Month theme is "A Century of Black History Commemorations," honoring 100 years of national observances since Dr. Carter G. Woodson first launched Negro History Week in 1926. This milestone highlights the evolution of Black history, focusing on a century of resilience, cultural pride, and the ongoing struggle against injustice.

The Plaisance Middle School Black History Program was a resounding success. We extend our sincere gratitude to our dedicated staff and students for the exceptional effort and hard work invested in this production. Furthermore, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Carmen Johnson and Mr. Raymond Cassimere for their presence and contributions as our distinguished guest speakers for this occasion.

Inspirational Indians for 5th Grade this week are Ashlynn Prudhomme & Jalon Laday!!!! 👏👏👏🎉🎉🎉

The faculty and students of Plaisance Middle recently enjoyed a rewarding experience exploring the world of chess. We would like to thank the Detroit City Chess Club for sharing their expertise and providing a fresh perspective on strategic thinking. It was a pleasure to see our students so highly engaged while developing critical new skills..

Thank you Detroit City Chess Club!

On behalf of Plaisance Middle School, we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to our annual food drive. Thanks to your generosity, this year’s initiative was a tremendous success, allowing us to make a significant impact in the lives of those in our community.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to Ms. Jan Fontenot for bringing her expertise to our 5th-grade classroom. The 'Blue Dog' construction project was a resounding success, providing a wonderful, hands-on opportunity for our students to explore artistic creation. Your step-by-step guidance was incredibly effective, ensuring they had both fun and a deep sense of accomplishment. We greatly appreciate your dedication to fostering creativity in our students. Through the Arts in Education program, students thoroughly enjoyed constructing their own 'Blue Dog' masterpieces.

"We sincerely thank the Northwest High School staff and students for welcoming our 8th graders. We deeply appreciate the tour and the valuable insights provided regarding the wonderful opportunities awaiting them next school year."
